Karuna Buddhist Vihara is a Theravada monastery dedicated to sharing the Buddha's teachings leading to a truly happy life. Our hermitage is located near Boulder Creek, CA in the redwood forest midway between the San Francisco Bay Area and Santa Cruz. Our meditation center is located in Sunnyvale, CA, where we hold most of our public programs.
All are invited (including those of all faiths, ethnicities, genders, and LGBTQ+ identities) to join us for meditation and Sutta Study every Wednesday night online or in person from 7:00-9:00 pm and Saturday morning online from 9:00 am to 10:30 am for meditation, Dhamma talk and discussion on "How do we apply the Dhamma to THIS!?!"
Please come and go as you wish. There are no requirements to join at the beginning or stay for the entire program.
Given the rise in COVID cases, if you're feeling unwell, please join programs online instead of coming in person.

******Vassa Support Opportunities*******
The bhikkhunis at KBV are spending the vassa, the three month "rains residence" in silent retreat. The lay community has generously offered to provide support so the bhikkhunis can spend this precious time developing their practice. For information on service opportunities, including staying at the monastery, food deliveries, and meal offerings, please see this page.
